SLED Decides Horry County Trooper Will Not Be Charged For Deadly Shooting

(Horry County, SC) - A Horry County trooper will not face charges for a deadly September shooting. 

SLED completed its investigation into the incident, finding that Master Trooper W.B. Benton acted in lawful self-defense. 

Benton was trying to pull over Tristan Vereen for an equipment violation when Vereen took off and a short chase happened before Vereen crashed into a yard. 

Vereen picked up a taser and was tasing Benton in the neck when Benton shot Vereen, who died. 

Benton had to get surgery for his injuries.
