(Columbia, SC) - The South Carolina House of Representatives has a new Speaker.
Republican Representative Murrell Smith was unanimously voted into the role on Thursday.
He'll serve as Speaker-elect for the next two weeks before officially taking over the position on May 12th.
Smith will need to be re-elected to the Speaker role after the November election to hold the position during next year's legislative session.
