New Law Limits Wake Surfing In South Carolina Waters

(Columbia, SC) -- A new law will limit wake surfing in South Carolina waters.

The Department of Natural Resources says wake surfing happens when a vessel creates a wake that another person can surf.

Under the new legislation, wake surfing is prohibited in excess of idle speed with 200-feet of a moored vessel, wharf, dock, bulkhead, pier, or person in the water.

Violating the law is a misdemeanor and could result in up to 600-dollars in fines.
