This Week's Weird News 2/3/23

A Hawaiian homeowner who was nearly crushed by a gigantic boulder, a mysterious and massive piece of artwork found near Las Vegas, and a creepy clown that caused a commotion for cops in Ohio are among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this week.

One of the more jaw-dropping videos we've seen in quite some time popped up on our radar this week by way of Hawaii, where a homeowner narrowly missed being crushed by an enormous boulder that barreled through her house. The stunning footage, captured by a home security camera, shows Caroline Sasaki walking towards the living room of her home when the 3,000 pound rock crosses just a few feet in front of her. The shaken woman credited her good fortune to a bad leg that causes her to walk slowly and marveled that she would have been crushed by the boulder, which measured five feet by five feet, if she had taken just a few more steps.

An odd mystery emerged on the outskirts of Las Vegas this past week with the discovery of a giant piece of artwork that is big enough to be seen from space. The strange design, which resembles a face connected to a yin and yang sign, was stumbled upon by Dr. David Golan as he and his wife were walking their dogs in a mountainous part of the desert at the edge of the city. Resembling just piles of rocks from the ground, the full scale of the drawing can be seen when viewed on Google Earth. Amazingly, archival satellite photos show that the unnamed artist behind the piece has been working on it since 2017, though it was apparently only found this year.

This past week saw a pair of stories centered around bizarre incidents involving police, beginning with a truly weird case in Ohio wherein a sheriff's office went on lockdown after security cameras captured a person angrily leaving a creepy clown statue at their doorstep. Although it was later determined that the curious figurine had been accidentally left behind on a nearby street by an area artist and that it posed no danger to the community, authorities are still trying to figure out who put it in front of their building and why he was so angry. Meanwhile, cops in Michigan were called to investigate a report of a chupacabra, but soon determined that the 'creature' wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
