Can You Find The "Hate" In This Speech?

If Facebook had been around in the 5th Century, Catholic theologian St. Augustine of Hippo would have found himself in Facebook purgatory for this quote:

“Let us never assume that if we live good lives we will be without sin; our lives should be praised only when we continue to beg for pardon. But men are hopeless creatures, and the less they concentrate on their own sins, the more interested they become in the sins of others. They seek to criticize, not to correct. Unable to excuse themselves, they are ready to accuse others.”

An official with Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Dominic Bettinelli, posted that to Facebook recently and had the post removed because Facebook deemed it to be “hate speech”.

Bettenelli appealed the deletion, asking for a human to review why Facebook’s algorithm called it hate speech. Sure enough, after human review, it was still called hate speech!

I invite you to read that quote again and tell me where the “hate” is.

Then consider the organization Bettinelli works for. That’s where you’ll find the answer.
