5 Things To Know For Tuesday, April 28th

  • There are eight new coronavirus-related deaths in South Carolina. All of the patients were elderly, with one from Greenville County, one from Clarendon, and one from Florence. There are now a total of 177 deaths from the virus in the state. The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the state is five-thousand-613.
  • Prisma Health is conducting antibody tests. Patients can get tested to see if their body has developed resilience to COVID-19. All of Prisma's labs have the test and providers can order it for patients. The hospital has also already started treating people with coronavirus with plasma from those who have recovered.
  • AccelerateSC is getting input from industry leaders as they work to decide when to reopen South Carolina's economy. State officials met as part of the initiative yesterday. Governor Henry McMaster and Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette were among the participants, discussing federal relief funding and other topics that would influence the economic reopening. The initiative has five committees: Response, Protection, Governance, Resources and Information.
  • Some states are beginning to reopen from coronavirus lockdowns. Most are being very cautious approach with no changes planned until leaders are confident their outbreak is easing. Some costumer-oriented businesses opened this week in a few states, including Georgia, Montana, and Kentucky. Restaurants in eight states will be allowed to serve customers on-site over the next week.
  • The IRS website's 'Get My Payment' tool is working. The website made significant changes over the weekend. The IRS didn't give specifics, but says it should be easier to get the status of a stimulus payment and add direct deposit information.
