(Columbia, SC) -- Many drivers may soon have to change their habits behind the wheel.
House lawmakers could begin discussing, as soon as today, a bill that would drastically increase fines for texting and talking on the phone while driving.
If the bill becomes law, fines for first-time offenders would go from 25 dollars to 100 dollars, and each successive fine would cost 300 dollars.
WIS reports the SCHP estimates there have been almost a thousand crashes caused by distracted driving this year, and 13 of them were deadly.
