Charleston City Council Passes Slavery Apology

(Charleston, SC)  --  Charleston officials are making what one councilman calls a long overdue apology. 

City Councilman William Dudley Gregorie was one of seven members last night who passed a resolution formally apologizing for the city's role in the slave trade.  

Five council members opposed the resolution, which reportedly includes a proposal to open an office of racial reconciliation.   

'Live 5 News' reports Harry Griffin was one of those who voted against the resolution, and he says the council should focus more on the future than the past.
