State Lawmaker Calls For Emergency Session Due To Rising COVID-19 Numbers

(Columbia, SC) -- Some South Carolina lawmakers are calling for an emergency legislative session. 

This comes as coronavirus cases in the Palmetto state continue to increase. 

State Representative Wendell Gilliard wrote a letter to Governor McMaster this week, requesting the emergency session. 

Currently, state lawmakers are not set to return to session until January of 2021.

DHEC announced 636 cases of COVID-19 yesterday. That brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the Palmetto State to 165,477 since the pandemic began. 

An additional 32 deaths were reported. Those deaths span from August 1st to October 27th, bringing the total confirmed deaths to 3,634.
