(Columbia, SC) -- A final procedural vote for the Fetal Heartbeat Bill will take place in the South Carolina General Assembly today.
The House passed the bill 79 to 35 yesterday after the Senate passed the same version of the measure in January.
Once signed into law by Governor McMaster, the bill would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected-- usually around six to eight weeks after conception-- with exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest, or if the mother's life is in danger.
Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are expected to file a lawsuit once the law is in place, challenging its constitutionality.
