(Richland County, SC)- A Richland County Deputy is receiving national recognition.
Deputy Sarah Merriman was given the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service.
The honor recognizes Merriman for her work on November 19th when she was able to get an armed suspect to put down a gun without having to draw her weapon.
This is the first time a South Carolina law enforcement officer has received this award.
