(Elgin, SC) -- DHEC is issuing a warning after a raccoon tested positive for rabies.
The animal found in Elgin is the second animal to test positive for rabies in Kershaw County this year.
It is one of 52 cases of rabid animals in all of South Carolina in 2022.
DHEC reminds everyone to seek medical attention if exposed to a wild, stray, or domestic animal. There are currently no known human or pet exposures to the virus.
