Bill Pre-filed To Allow Designated School Employees To Carry Weapon

Columbia, SC) -- Designated school employees in the state may be able to carry a weapon if new legislation passes.

WCIV ABC4 News reports state Senator Brian Adams has pre filed a bill called "The School's Guardian Act."

School boards would be allowed to designate certain employees who would be able to carry a weapon on campus in case of an active shooter.

Adams told ABC4 that not just anyone can be designated a school guardian and detailed that employees would have to go through an interview process.

State Representative Wendell Gilliard tells the outlet he would rather see metal detectors installed at schools instead, saying teachers shouldn't be turned "into military or security people."
