South Carolina Senate Advances Second School Voucher Bill

(Columbia, SC) -- South Carolina lawmakers are advancing their second school voucher bill.

The measure expands the Academic Choice in Education program- which funds scholarships to private schools- to include more students.

If the bill becomes law, students who qualify for scholarships would include those who require special education services, those with a family income of up to 400-percent of the federal poverty level, and those who are homeschooled.

The South Carolina Senate sent the bill to the House for consideration after a 28 to 9 vote.
