(Columbia, SC) - A new Columbia ordinance will regulate short-term rental properties, like those hosted on Airbnb and Vrbo.
The measure passed by the Columbia City Council this week will require short-term rental properties to have a business license and pay registration fees each year to operate.
The ordinance had been in discussion for more than a year after an initial proposal would have banned all non-owner-occupied short-term rentals in residential areas.
City officials plan to locate all short-term rentals before the mandatory registration period ends for this year.
