(Washington, DC)-- The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 is advancing after a U.S. House vote, but several representatives from South Carolina voted against the measure.
The deal was negotiated by President Biden and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy before passing in a 314 to 117 vote Wednesday night.
Four of South Carolina's seven U.S. representatives opposed it- Republicans Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and William Timmons.
It was supported by Democratic House Assistant Minority Leader Jim Clyburn- also from the Palmetto state.
The bill aimed at suspending the country's debt limit until 2025 now heads to the U.S. Senate, where both of South Carolina's Senators- Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott- are expected to vote against it.
