(Bishopville, SC) - Closing arguments will take place today in the first trial connected to the deadly 2018 riot at Lee Correctional Institution.
Michael Juan Smith is charged with conspiracy, possession of a weapon in prison, and assault and battery that resulted in death by mob.
He took the stand in his own defense Thursday.
After closing arguments today, the jury will determine Smith's fate.
