(Charleston, SC) -- A man accused of conspiring with Alex Murdaugh to commit fraud will get a new trial.
In 2022, Russell Laffitte was convicted by a jury of helping Murdaugh steal millions of dollars from legal settlements.
In 2023, he was sentenced to seven years in prison and to pay 3-point-5-million dollars in restitution. After appealing the bank and wire fraud convictions, they have been overturned by the court.
Laffitte's sentence was also vacated and he will be granted a new trial.
