(Columbia, SC) -- A new student cellphone ban will be in effect when students return from winter break.
Every school district statewide is required to create and implement a cellphone policy for the rest of the academic year.
It's part of a proviso passed by lawmakers as part of the state budget.
Districts that do not follow the proviso could risk state funding.
