(Columbia, SC) - A suspect is now in South Carolina and arraigned in connection to the death of a state lawmaker's son.
State Representative Brandon Guffey's son Gavin Guffey died by suicide in 2022.
Prosecutors say a 24-year-old from Nigeria pretended to be a teen girl to get explicit photos of Gavin, then extorted him using the photos.
The suspect was extradited from Nigeria to face five federal charges, including child exploitation resulting in death.
The suspect was arraigned in federal court in Columbia on Monday.
