Lawmakers Request Investigation Of Death Row Inmate's Execution

(Columbia, SC) - Two lawmakers are requesting an investigation into the recent execution of a death row inmate. Forty-two-year-old Mikal Mahdi was executed in April by firing squad after being convicted for a 2004 deadly crime spree. Mahdi's lawyers allege the execution was mishandled by the state- causing Mahdi's death to be "excruciating". State Representatives Justin Bamberg and Neal Collins sent a letter to Governor McMaster and the Director of the South Carolina Department of Corrections on Monday- expressing concern over Mahdi's autopsy results.
