Call her the former Governor. Nikki Haley’s appointment to be UN Ambassador has been confirmed by the full Senate.
Haley, who is here in Columbia today, is resigning her position and handing over the governorship to Henry McMaster who will be sworn in shortly as our state’s 117th governor. McMaster officially became governor at the moment Haley resigned.
SC Senate Pro Temp Hugh Leatherman resigned his leadership position prior to the full US Senate vote to avoid being elevated to the Lt. Governor position. Sen. Kevin Bryant is expected to take that position after which he will become Lt. Governor.
It is expected that Leatherman will then seek to regain the Senate Pro Temp slot.
