Powerful thunderstorms brought heavy rain, large, golf ball-sized hail, and damaging winds yesterday and last night, knocking out power to about 21,000 Duke Energy customers over a large area of north and western South Carolina, and western North Carolina.
In many places, trees were uprooted and power lines are still down. In Greenville County alone, about 15,000 are still without electricity.
The bad weather played havoc with some air travelers, as a small number of flights were diverted from Charlotte's Douglas International, to Columbia Metro. They refueled, and went on their way.
