Woman Awarded Million In Medical Malpractice Suit

Seletha Gartrell has won her lawsuit against the Aiken Regional Medical Center, with a $13.75-million dollar compensation package from her medical malpractice claim.

She lost both legs above the knee, her left arm below the elbow, and the fingers on her right hand, after being admitted to the hospital, in early December, 2012.

Her original complaint was that because of the negligent care of the doctors and nurses who treated her, failing to accurately diagnose her sepsis condition, she lost her limbs.

The hospital was found "reckless, willful, or wanton," and must pay Gartrell.
