The University of South Carolina Gamecock women's basketball team is celebrating its first-ever national championship. The Gamecocks knocked off Mississippi State 67-55 in the title game in Dallas. The Bulldogs were coming off a 66-64 overtime win over UConn in the Final Four on Friday that snapped the Huskies' 111-game winning streak.
Tournament MVP A'ja Wilson and Allisha Gray both had double-doubles to lead the Gamecocks to the title in an all-Southeastern Conference matchup of first-time finalists. Sunday night.
It was the first title for the SEC since the second of two straight by Tennessee in 2008.
Wilson had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Gray added 18 points and 10 boards.
