Trav Robertson was elected to head the state Democratic Party at their weekend convention here in Columbia.
The 42 year old political operative won the election with 66% of the vote. His nearest challenger, Susan Smith from Pawley's Island, received 28% of the delegates' votes.
Robertson feels Democrats can eventually challenge Republicans, who maintain control of the legislature and hold every statewide office.
