Proposed Bill Aims To Keep Kids Out Of Juvenile Detention Centers

A bill is being pushed through South Carolina legislature that would reform the way juvenile justice laws punish teenagers for minor offenses.

The proposal would allow lawmakers to revise century-old statutes that have contributed to what representatives call a "school-to-prison-pipeline."

If the bill passes, a committee of parents, teachers and law enforcement will be formed to review current laws and recommend ways to keep students out of the criminal juvenile justice system.
