Following the lead of the House earlier today, the Senate by a vote of 32-12 has voted to override Gov. McMaster’s veto of the bill that raises the gas tax by two cents each year for six years.
The legislation is a compromise between House and Senate bills that also includes a tax credit for the extra gas costs and a tuition cut.
There will be an increase in fees for things like vehicle registration and alternative fuel cars, among others.
The new law takes effect on July 1, the start of the next fiscal year.
