Marine Corp Films Dating Back To World War Two Preserved At USC

Footage from World War Two, Korea and Vietnam taken by U.S. Marines is being preserved at the University of South Carolina.

A ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday officially opened the cold-storage vault designed to keep the Marine Corp films in good condition. The collection is made up of 18-thousand cans of film and is being converted to digital format to be placed online for the public to see.

Two USC alumni payed for the vault to be built after the Library of Congress and the National Archives couldn't store the films. A university curator of Marine Corps Film Repository says they can be used as highly accurate historical references.
