Fort Jackson Celebrates 100th Birthday

Fort Jackson, which officially turned 100 this month, will host the Army's 241st Birthday Ball this Sunday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

The base began as a World War I training facility and has since trained an estimated 5-million soldiers, is the country's largest basic training location.

Also this weekend the Army will be honored at the Sunday Lexington County Blowfish game as part of the team’s annual Army appreciation event.

Various other events are planned as part of a yearlong commemoration to celebrate the Post’s 100th birthday.
