The emergency search for a lone swimmer near the Gervais Street bridge will resume this morning, after being suspended last night.
Four swimmers were in the water around 11 yesterday morning, and became distressed. One reached safety on their own, two others were rescued by a stranger, but the fourth, a man in his 30's, disappeared.
Columbia fire and rescue is leading the search, assisted by numerous law enforcement agencies, including the Richland County Sheriff's Department, and SLED.
The response and search caused the bridge to be completely shut down for a number of hours late Sunday morning.
