Commissioners Criticize SCE&G's Decision To Abandon Nuclear Power Project

State Public Service Commission members are criticizing SCE&G for their decision to walk away from reactors in Fairfield County.

SCE&G had spent billions of dollars on a nuclear expansion project and decided this week to walk away from the partially-built reactors. Electricity rates had been raised nine times for SCE&G customers, with PSC permission, to finance the project.

PSC members say they're concerned the project is being abandoned after so much effort. The PSC statement says the reactors could have brought in tax revenue for roads, industrial parks and schools.
