Leaders in South Carolina Lowcountry starting to implement disaster response efforts in the event that Hurricane Irma heads toward the Carolinas.
Charleston County is activating it's emergency management center today to begin monitoring the progress of the storm.
The system is expected to impact Florida this weekend as a major hurricane before turning northward toward the U.S. Eastern Seaboard by early next week.
