Report Shows Magnitude Of Cost Overruns At Nuclear Project

(Columbia, SC)  --  A newly released report has state officials wishing they knew then what they know now about an abandoned nuclear project.

The report by Fluor Corporation shows it would have cost more than four-and-a-half billion dollars more to finish building the VC Summer Nuclear Station.  SCANA and Santee Cooper abandoned the project more than four months ago after spending nine-billion dollars on it.

A member of a committee investigating the project tells "the State" it would have been helpful to have the report two years ago.
