Gov. Declares Public Health Emergency

(West Columbia, SC)  --  Governor Henry McMaster is declaring a public health emergency after an increased amount of opioid-related deaths in the state.

The governor made the announcement yesterday.  He says deaths from heroin have spiked nearly 70 percent from 2014 to 2016.

McMaster says he's put together an emergency team to tackle the issue.  He's also ordering state medical services to limit opioid prescriptions to some people.
