Drilling Opponents Gathering In Columbia

(Columbia, SC)  --  Coastal residents are uniting to stop what they fear could bring billions of dollars in damage to their homes and livelihoods.

The federal Bureau of Ocean Management is holding a meeting in Columbia today to get public input on allowing oil drilling off the coast.

Environmentalists wanted the meeting held on the coast, since that's where those most affected by drilling live.

They didn't get their wish, but they're boarding buses this morning for the two hour trip to Columbia, where a Pawleys Island resident tells "The State" they'll give federal officials an earful.
