Richland County Ordered To Halt Spending Of Sales Tax Revenue

(Columbia, SC)  --  Richland County may have to pay for what judges call dubious spending.

The state supreme court this week ordered the county to suspend any spending of its sales tax revenue.

The money raised from the penny tax is supposed to go to transportation projects, but the Department of Revenue says the county illegally spent the money on other projects.

The county council will meet this afternoon to discuss the court's ruling and how to proceed.
