Solicitor Facing Questions Over Spending Of Money

(Columbia, SC)  --  A prosecutor's generosity with public money is leading to some questions.

Records released yesterday show Fifth Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson has been writing checks to charities, non-profits, businesses and employees using money seized from bounced check prosecutions.

Documents released by a group called Public Access to Public Records shows Johnson wrote 14-thousand dollars worth of checks from the accounts between 2012 and 2017.

An ethics watchdog tells "The State" he wonders if Johnson's actions are legal, and, if so, why hasn't he kept more detailed records.
