(Columbia, SC) -- A man is dead after being shot by deputies in an armed standoff.
The shooting happened yesterday as Lexington County deputies say West Columbia's Robert Shaw sat in a truck on I-26 with a gun to his head. The incident snarled traffic on the interstate for several hours.
Sheriff Jay Koon says negotiations went on for several hours before talks broke down, and deputies moved in.
Koon says after Shaw made a sudden movement, deputies opened fire, and Shaw was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
