Sumter County Votes To Close Two Schools

(Sumter, SC)  --  Sumter County school leaders are moving forward with a plan the NAACP tried to stop.

The board of trustees voted yesterday to close Mayewood Middle School and Delaine Elementary School.

Students from those schools will be merged into Davis Elementary and Cherryvale Elementary.

Local news outlets reported the NAACP opposed the moves because the schools being closed are attended mostly by black students in rural areas.
