House Passes Budget

(Columbia, SC)  --  Prisons and schools could both become safer after what state lawmakers did this morning.

The House worked past midnight to pass a new budget that includes more money for corrections officers and school security.

"The State" reports the budget includes a measure that allows retired police officers to exceed a ten thousand dollar earnings cap if they agree to work as school resource officers.

The eight billion dollar budget now goes to the Senate ahead of a July First deadline.
