(Columbia, SC) -- There will no runoff in the Democratic race for governor.
State Rep. James Smith won the Democratic primary yesterday and avoided a runoff with a majority of the vote. Florence lawyer Marguerite Willis came in second, and Charleston tech consultant Phil Noble was third.
The 50-year-old Smith has been a state rep for more than two decades, and if he wins in November, he'll be the state's first Democratic governor since 2002.
