Flags To Fly At Half Staff In Honor Of Soldier

(Columbia, SC)  --  Flags will be flying at half staff today in honor of a soldier from Summerville killed in action.

Sergeant First Class Christopher Celiz died last week while serving in Afghanistan in Operation Freedom's Sentinel.  This was his fifth deployment after serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

After his death, the Army awarded him the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Celiz graduated from Summerville High School in 2004, attended The Citadel and enlisted in the Army in 2007.  He's survived by his wife, Katie.  Funeral services will be held today in Georgia for the 32-year-old.

Under an order by Governor Henry McMaster, flags will fly at half-staff until sundown.
