The polls are open and will stay that way until seven this evening in today’s Senate District 20 special primary elections.
These elections are for the seat vacated when Senator John Courson was first suspended and later resigned after pleading guilty to misconduct in office.
The district served by the senate seat includes most of downtown Columbia as well as the Chapin Irmo area.
In all 3 Democrats and 4 Republicans are vying for their party's nomination for the November general election. A run-off if need would be held in 2 weeks.
