Protesters Call For Changes At Prisons

(Columbia, SC) -- A deadly riot in South Carolina is the inspiration for a national call for prison reform.

Protesters gathered yesterday in Columbia and other cities around the country to call for better conditions, higher wages and the restoration of voting rights for felons.

A spokesman for the Free South Carolina Movement says all members of society deserve an opportunity to realize their potential as human beings.

Some protesters are family members of the seven inmates killed in a riot four months ago at a prison in Bishopville.
