Floodwaters Rise

(Wilmington, NC) -- Flooding in parts of the state is expected to exceed that of Hurricane Matthew.

The National Weather Service announced yesterday the Waccamaw River could rise to almost 20 feet by Sunday morning, and that would be well above the 19 feet seen during Matthew two years ago and Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

At last report, the river was over 15-and-a-half feet, which is more than four feet above flood stage.

A Flood Warning is in effect for the Conway area as well as parts of Marion, Darlington and Florence counties.
