New Bill Meant To Address Housing Problems

(Columbia, SC) -- New efforts are underway to address what one lawmaker calls a crisis.

Two bills were filed yesterday in response to the deaths, last month, of two people at a public housing complex in Columbia. Charleston State Rep Marvin Pendarvis filed a bill that would allow renters to pay for their own repairs and deduct the costs from their monthly rent. Another bill, filed by Richland Senator Darrell Jackson, gives the county the power to suspend members of a local housing authority in the event of an emergency.
