Teachers Criticize New School Bill

(Columbia, SC) -- Teachers are skeptical about some new efforts by lawmakers to help them.

Hundreds of teachers, yesterday, addressed a House subcommittee about an education bill one teacher says has dangerous flaws. The bill calls for higher starting salaries and the combining of small districts, but teachers say it doesn't address staff shortages. House lawmakers voted to give the Education Department until next year to come up with ways to improve classroom efficiency.
