(Columbia, SC) -- Lawmakers are taking steps to avoid a repeat of a problem found at one electric co-op.
House lawmakers yesterday advanced a bill that would give state regulators more control over all electric co-ops, including Tri-County Electric Co-op in Calhoun County.
Members of that co-op's board were accused, last year, of taking excessive payments and health benefits and sticking customers with high utility bills.
Customers later voted to replace the co-op's leaders.
