A South Carolina congressman is taking action to prevent a repeat of what happened in a Columbia public housing complex.
First District Democrat Joe Cunningham, yesterday, introduced a bill that would require carbon monoxide detectors to be installed in all public housing units. The bill was filed in response to the deaths of two men in Allen Benedict Court in January, which led to the complex being shut down.
Meanwhile, 90 families who lived in the complex are still in need of permanent housing, and the Columbia Housing Authority tells News 19 they hope to have all of them in new homes by the end of the month.
